I use the following four suspensions to control gastrointestinal parasites in the goat. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at home or send me a page at 864-972-6411.

Antiparasitic medication is expensive, so be careful during the administration not to spill the medication accidentally. Use the correct dosing (drench) type syringe when administering this medication. This medication must be administered into the back part of the throat, behind the tongue to prevent the animal from spitting the medication out.

Synanthic® (oxfendazole) – Bovine Dewormer Suspension, 9.06%
Manufacturer: FORT DODGE / supplied in 1000mL bottle, approx. $ 110 – 125.00
Dose regimens are given for cattle – you must double or even triple the weight/dose for goats. Example: 110 lb. goat, give 5.0 – 7.5 mL oral drench. You may repeat this dose amount in 4-6 weeks.

IVOMEC® (ivermectin) – Parasiticide Suspension for Sheep, 0.08%
Manufacturer: Merial Limited / supplied in 960mL bottle, approx. $ 55.00
Dose regimens are given for sheep – you must double the weight/dose for goats.
Example: For every 26 lb., give 6.0 mL oral drench. You may repeat this dose amount in 4-6 weeks.

VALBAZEN® (albendazole) – Broad-Spectrum Dewormer for Cattle & Sheep, 11.36%
Manufacturer: Pfizer Animal Health / supplied in 500mL bottle, approx. $ 45 - $ 57.00
Dose regimens are given for cattle & sheep – you must double the weigh/dose for goats.
Example: For every 50 lb., give 3.0 mL oral drench. You may repeat this dose amount in
4-6 weeks. * Especially good for hard to kill tape worms.

Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) – Dewormer for Goats, 10% Suspension
Manufacturer: Intervet Inc. / supplied in 125mL bottle, approx. cost $ 16.00 - $ 20.00
Dose regimens are given for goats – I would still recommend that you double the indicated dose regimen for optimal control. You may repeat this dose amount in 4-6 weeks. This medication is best for does which are close to their delivery date.

* Many antiparasitic medications should not be used for does which are pregnant – be cautious.
